EXPLORE THE SUNKEN GERMAN FLEET WITHOUT GETTING WET!

GuideTake advantage of a unique opportunity to see for the first time in over 70 years the underwater wonders of a German wreck without getting wet!

On 21 June 1919, Admiral Von Reuter gave the command for seventy four German battleships, cruisers and destroyers to be scuttled rather than fall into British hands. This was the largest scuttling operation in the world, and before now the remaining wrecks could only be seen by divers.

You will take a short cruise in the afternoon on the comfortable and roomy Guide from Houton pier which takes you to one of the many German boats at rest under the sea. Watch actual footage of battle scenes from the two World Wars on video screens on the trip out. Then, an ROV (remote operated vehicle) is deployed and manoeuvred down to explore the wreck and colour video pictures are transmitted up to be viewed in the comfort of the Guide. Cruise duration is approximately three hours.

Then it's on to the Scapa Flow Centre on Hoy to see artifacts and other memorabilia taken from the wrecks. A host of underwater sea life live on the wrecks and seals and sea birds are often seen on the way back to the pier. A fun and educational trip for all!

Booking is essential. Reserve your seat at Kirkwall or Stromness Tourist Office, or call Roving Eye at 01856 811360 for information on schedules and rates - you may also request information via the form below.
