On the 21st of June 1919, 74 ships of the German High Seas fleet which had been interned in Scapa Flow after World War I were scuttled by their crews. The largest act of self-destruction ever committed by any navy. During the 1920s and 1930s a large number of the massive ships were raised and broken up for scrap. Seven of the largest are still on the sea bed, along with a number of other ships from the Second World War.
These are now a mecca for divers from all over the world.
