The Isles

The Isles can be divided into two groups, the Northern Isles lying to the North of the Mainland, and the Southern Isles lying to the south of the Mainland. Four of the Southern Isles, Lambholm, Glimsholm, Burray, and South Ronaldsay, are connected by the Churchill Barriers and may be reached by road from the mainland. All of the other Isles are reached by ferry from the terminals listed below:

Houton - Hoy, Flotta

Tingwall - Rousay, Egilsay, Wyre

Kirkwall - Westray, Papa Westray, North Ronaldsay, Sanday, Stronsay, Shapinsay

It is possible to travel to many of the smaller islands - enquiries should be made at the tourist office in either Kirkwall or Stromness well in advance of the required day of travel.
