Lying west of a dividing line drawn between Kirkwall and Scapa
Bay, the West Mainland of Orkney contains the largest concentration of archeological
sites to be found anywhere in Britain. Many of these sites are well preserved,
and all are certainly worth a visit. In addition to this, the Atlantic coast
of the West Mainland contains spectacular cliff scenery, several impressive
sea stacks, and many sea caves.
The West Mainland is divided into the parishes of
Birsay
Evie
Firth
Harray
Orphir
Rendall
Sandwick
Stenness
Stromness
